ActiveCollab Review: Helps You Manage All Your Projects
July 13, 2009 by Tyrone
In today’s post I would like to share with you an excellent piece of software that I use in my business. I had been struggling in the past to manage multiple projects all at once and when you have 3 staff working for you full time, you need to have good systems in place to manage them. Furthermore, it can be a real disaster when you take on more work without having a project management software in place. You will receive more emails from your clients and programmers and before you know it, you will have forgotten who sent what.
This is why I turned to ActiveCollab. A few weeks ago I did a podcast with Adam Lever from Big Screen Promotions and on the topic of How To Outsource Your Internet Business. In the podcast we discussed about how to outsource your Internet business and also mentioned a few software products that were freely available. One we mentioned was Dot Project and this is an open source software that is quite basic. I personally felt it wasn’t enough to manage the projects and opted to another option.
ActiveCollab – A Project Management Software I Love!
When I found ActiveCollab it was originally open source and was free up until Version 1.0. Then the team decided to charge a license fee starting at $199.00 which I believe is well worth the price. A lot of times I don’t buy software or recommend it unless it either:
- Saves time
- Saves money
- Easy to use
Video Interview: Roy Rubin Talks About Magento Commerce
July 1, 2009 by Tyrone
CEO And Founder Of Varien: Roy Rubin
In this post I interview Roy Rubin from Varien who developed an open source ecommerce software called Magento Commerce. This software is feature rich and a highly sophisticated ecommerce system that offers any Internet business the tools to sell any product online. I am currently using Magento Commerce for my dragonboat website and it has provided more tools and functionality compared to Zencart to help promote my products. If you haven’t read my review, check out why I think Magento Commerce is one of the best open source ecommerce platforms I recommend to use.
I interviewed Roy because I wanted to find out how his company Varien developed Magento Commerce and why they took the open source path to release this software. Additionally not only has this software exceeded a lot of user’s expectations it’s almost had close to 1 million users download it and use it. Some of these users include Fortune 500 companies and medium to large businesses that have said and proven to work for them.

May 11, 2009 by Tyrone
Lately I’ve been reading through some e-commerce forums and I have noticed a lot of beginners asking the same questions. Just like myself, I once was a beginner in starting an e-commerce business and with time and experience I have gained a greater understanding of what is involved. In many ways I wish I had someone there who could show me a simple “how to” setup a successful e-commerce business, which would have saved a lot of the countless hours. Luckily for you, you won’t need to spend more time trying to search the information as I am going to give you a step by step guide on how to setup your own e-commerce website over a course spanning a few weeks. I will link everything back to this post when this course is finished.
Firstly, the assumption I am going to make is that you are looking to install an open source software. The one I recommend is Magento Commerce, which is an extremely powerful platform to use for any e-commerce business. If you want to see why I recommend this software, please read my review: Magento Commerce Review.
Here is an outline of what you will learn:
- Choosing your e-commerce business domain name
- Finding a reliable hosting service to host your e-commerce website
- Setup your domain name to redirect to your hosting provider
- Preparing your site for a pre-launch
- Uploading and installing Magento Commerce on the hosting server
- Setup your email servers using Gmail
- Configure Magento Commerce with SEO optimization add-on
- Which pages to include on your e-commerce website – about us, contact us, privacy policies, shipping and returns policy, etc.
- Uploading your products images and descriptions to appeal to your customers
- Launching your e-commerce website
By the end of this course you will be able to setup your own e-commerce website and start to see profits. If there is anything that I may not have covered, please leave your comments below and I’ll add it to this course. Any feedback is appreciated.
